NHL – Jack Adams Award Finalists

30 April 2008

NHL announced the Jack Adams Award finalists for outstanding coach.

Here are this year’s finalists:

Bruce Boudreau, Washington Capitals

Mike Babcock, Detroit Red Wings

Guy Carbonneau, Montreal Canadiens

Tough choices in this category. Either it is Boudreau or Carbonneau. I would say Boudreau because of the turn around of Capitals from the start of the season to the playoffs. With him coming to the NHL level, he helped turned the team around to make the playoffs.

Who do you think will win it?

Tomorrow a review of the other awards to be announced Thursday, June 12 during the 2008 NHL Awards Television Special, which will be broadcast live throughout Canada on CBC and the United States on VERSUS from the historic Elgin Theatre in Toronto.

  42. When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you “squeeze” for freshness or softness? Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are :
    1. Monday = Blue,
    2. Tuesday = Green,
    3. Thursday= Red
    4. Friday = White
    5. Saturday = Yellow

So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow , Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.

An Old Newness – Thomas Sowell @ Townhall

29 April 2008

Yet, Thomas Sowell has written another great piece, An Old Newness, at Townhall today. He compares how Paul Waner, a great baseball hitter, made sure his 3,000th hit would be legitimate hit with how we should recall our own history when we legitimately vote for president this fall.

Most of this article is focus on the Barack Obama’s positions on the issues of day. Again, Mr Sowell presents some historical references with what Obama has said on such positions. For example,

Although Senator Obama has presented himself as the candidate of new things — using the mantra of “change” endlessly — the cold fact is that virtually everything has says about domestic policy is straight out of the 1960s and virtually everything he says about foreign policy is straight out of the 1930s.

The results of such 1960 domestic policy:

Protecting criminals, attacking business, increasing government spending, promoting a sense of envy and grievance, raising taxes on people who are productive and subsidizing those who are not — all this is a re-run of the 1960s

The results of such 1930 foreign policy:

Internationally, the approach that Senator Obama proposes — including the media magic of meetings between heads of state — was tried during the 1930s. That approach, in the name of peace, is what led to the most catastrophic war in human history.

Well, I knew that Obama was for a change. That is all I hear from him. I do not heard any real substance of the change he proposes or it sounds very familiar to the democratic policies. I am for change, but not for this re-run change. I am looking for new change that will take the country into a bright future. How about a change for permanent lower taxes and less government involvement in our lives?

The future of the country is at stake, be sure you vote this fall.

2008 GMA Dove Awards

26 April 2008

For a change of pace, I thought I would share some of the 39th Annual GMA Dove Awards winners announced on April 23, 2008. If you missed the show like I did, encores will air on Gospel Music Channel at these times:

Saturday 4/26/08 – 3pm EST
Sunday 4/27/08 – 7pm EST
Wednesday 4/30/08 – 10am EST
Thursday 5/1/08 – 8pm EST
Thursday 5/1/08 – 11pm EST

One of the surprises in the artist of year winners was the female artist. On my local Christian radio stations, it is hard to find any new female artist’s songs in the Top 20 of the Christian charts these day. The Contemporary Christian Music genre is dominated by groups and male artists.
