Complete Peanuts 1975-1976

Since the death of Charles M Schulz in 2001, I was happy to learn in 2003 that Fantagraphic Books was re-publishing the entire Peanuts comic strip in hard back over 12 1/2 year period. Just recently, I finished the thirteenth volume of the series, The Complete Peanuts 1975-1976,  with a forward done by Robert Smigel.

In this volume, two of Snoopy’s siblings are introduced.  His brother, Spike, comes to visit Snoopy and Lucy make it her mission to get him to be a normal beagle.  On his way to Wimbledon, Snoopy stops in Kansas City to visit his sister, Belle, and his not very impressive nephew.  Peppermint Patty has her own adventure in successfully complete obedience school.  And Charlie Brown meets his baseball idol, Joe Shlabotnik, during summer camp.

I found the Sunday strips of the Beagle Scout to be quite amusing and Snoopy’s conversations with the cat next door.  It was interesting to actually learn the name of the cat next door, World War II.

The previous volume can still be purchased in the US.  Amazon.com still carries these volumes. The official current list of available The Complete Peanuts volumes can be found at Fantagraphic’s website.
