2008 GMA Dove Awards

For a change of pace, I thought I would share some of the 39th Annual GMA Dove Awards winners announced on April 23, 2008. If you missed the show like I did, encores will air on Gospel Music Channel at these times:

Saturday 4/26/08 – 3pm EST
Sunday 4/27/08 – 7pm EST
Wednesday 4/30/08 – 10am EST
Thursday 5/1/08 – 8pm EST
Thursday 5/1/08 – 11pm EST

One of the surprises in the artist of year winners was the female artist. On my local Christian radio stations, it is hard to find any new female artist’s songs in the Top 20 of the Christian charts these day. The Contemporary Christian Music genre is dominated by groups and male artists.

Portable Sounds CD
tobyMac
Artist of the Year
Don't Get Comfortable CD
Brandon Heath
New Artist of the Year
The Altar and The Door CD
Casting Crowns
Group of the Year
Relentless CD
Natalie Grant
Female Vocalist of the Year
See the Morning CD
Chris Tomlin
Male Vocalist of the Year
Postcards CD
Cindy Morgan
Songwriter of the Year

I was not surprise to see Casting Crowns win for East to West:

The Altar and The Door CD
East to West
Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year

Here was a great song this past year, I heard very often:

Glory Revealed CD
By His Wounds
Inspirational Song of the Year

It was good to see Point of Grace back again but in a different sub-genre:

How You Live CD
How You Live
Country Song of the Year

This album has East to West on it, so I knew this album would win. Big night for Casting Crowns.

The Altar and The Door CD

Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year

They had a tribute to Michael W Smith on the show. So, if you love Christmas music, Michael W Smith wins it. I have this on my wish list at Amazon, but it is no longer available. 😦

It's A Wonderful Christmas CD

Christmas Album of the Year

All album covers are provided by ChristianBooks.com. Check out their 2008 Dove Award Winners & Nominees website.
