Stanley Cup Final Game 2
It was another impressive game played by the Red Wings. Their defensive style is paying dividends again. It appears that Penguins are still having problem getting on track as they are now have been shutout for 6 straight periods. This was last done by Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils. But, they seem to gain some momentum in the second period. Similar to what Dallas had done to Detroit in the Western Conference Finals. However, the Penguins were not able to cash on the changes they had in this period.
Detroit got goals from supporting players again tonight and Pittsburgh continues to have problems in the neutral zone. By scoring first, Red Wings set the tempo in this game. One thing to note, special teams have not played a major factor in the series on the scoring sheet. Only one power play goal and a short handed goal have been scored to this point, both by Detroit. However, the power play goal happen when the game was already decided. Yet, nothing tonight on special teams for both teams besides the 4 on 4 goal by Detroit.
So, maybe the home ice of Pittsburgh will give the Pens an edge. They will need to do something to make a series that many expert thought would go at least six games.
But about MVP players? So far into this series, I see that Chris Osgood and Henrik Zetterberg are the leading candidates for the Conn Symth on the Red Wings side. For the Penguins, no doubt their leading candidate is Marc-Andre Fleury. But, there are at least two more games to go. Things could change.
