Lucky 8

A lot has been made of the number 8 in this year’s Olympics in Beijing.  In China, the number 8 is lucky.  For instance, the Chinese had the Olympics started on 08.08.08 at 08.08 PM Beijing time.  So, prior to the Olympics, Michael Phelps set out with his own goal of winning 8 gold medals in 8 events.

So last night, Michael Phelps did accomplish his goal and won his eighth gold medal of these Olympics this morning. See Yahoo story here. And by the way, he also set seven world records and setting a new standard in swimming by eclipsing Mark Spitz record 7 goal medals.

What I found amazing about Phelps was prior to this picture, I noticed him saying, ‘Thank you’, to his teammates for helping him to accomplish goal of collecting eight gold medals in eight events.  This shows great humility.  It is no wonder that Michael Phelps will go down in history as one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history.

Congratulation, Michael Phelps, a true Olympic champion.
