2011 Frozen Four
The 2011 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four starts this Thursday in St Paul, Minnesota. The schedule is here.
There are two teams from the WCHA, Minnesota-Duluth and North Dakota, and two teams from CCHA, Michigan and Notre Dame. So, we should see some exciting hockey this weekend.
North Dakota is only remaining top seed in the tournament. Unlike the Division I basketball counterparts, this team is likely to win it all. But, they will face a tough challenge from Michigan, a team who has won the title 2 more times than the Fight Sioux.
My prediction: I like the two WCHA teams to meet in the Finals on Saturday with the Fighting Sioux winning their 8th title.
Update 09 April 2011:
Well, my champion prediction will not happen this year. Michigan played a great Semi-Final game and won 2-0. And Minnesota-Duluth special teams were awesome in their Semi-Final match against Notre Dame. It is no surprise that a Michigan school and a Minnesota school are playing for college ice hockey glory. Beside Northeast states, these states have turning out great hockey players. So, I expect a great game tonight. I like to see the Minnesota-Duluth win their first championship, but Michigan team can be the first school with 10 titles.
Update 10 April 2011:
Well, the game turned out expected. As Minnesota-Duluth won their first championship in their own home state, 3-2 in overtime. ESPNU has the story here.
