2013 Hart Trophy Finalists

Hart Memorial Trophy

NHL announced the finalists for 2013 Hart Trophyon Friday.  The Hart Trophy is awarded annually to the “player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.”  This year’s finalists are  New York Islanders center John Tavares, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, and Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin.

The Hart Trophy is determined by the members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association at the end of the regular season.

The winner will be announced during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final.

Here is the second award Crosby and Ovechkin are battle for this year.  One of these two will win it.  As stated with Lindsay Trophy, my guess would be on Sidney Crosby.

2011 Hart Trophy Nominees

3 May 2011 1 comment

Last week, the NHL announced the nominees for the Hart Trophy for most valuable player.  They are Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks, Daniel Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks and Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning.  NHL story is here.

All three players have been instrumental in getting their teams to the playoffs this year.  Each have exhibited the offensive skills to carry their team to victory.  But only one of these wingers will win this year’s award.  Vancouver’s Daniel Sedin will take this award.

The 2011 NHL Awards will be held at the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas on June 22. The ceremony will be broadcast by VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada.

2010 Hart Trophy Nominees

NHL.com announced the nominees for the 2009-10 Hart Trophy. They are Sidney Crosby of the Penguins, Alex Ovechkin of the Capitals and Henrik Sedin of the Canucks. No surprise that “They also were the top three scorers in the NHL this past season.” according to the NHL.com article.
The Hart Memorial Trophy is presented annually “to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.” The winner is selected in a poll by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association in the 30 NHL cities at the end of the regular season.

It will be a tough pick this year.  I think the surprise upset pick will be Henrik Sedin.  He was the top points scorer this year as Crosby was co-winner of the Richard Trophy for top goal scorer.  So, why not go with the dark horse this year.

Get a closer look at this year’s nominee here..

The winner will be announced at the NHL Awards Show on June 23 in Las Vegas

NHL 2009 Hart Trophy Nominees

29 April 2009 Leave a comment

NHL.com announced the 2009 Hart Trophy nominees for most outstanding player.  They are:

Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit Red Wings
Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh Penguins
Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

This will be difficult to pick a winner in this group. All three have made major contributions to their teams this year.   Alexander Ovechkin won it last year and is looking to repeat.  Per the NHL story, it seems the Evgeni Malkin has had a consistent regular season year despites Pittsburgh struggles during the year.  Pavel Datsyuk has the skills on offensive and defensive to be deemed most valuable to his team.  Convententual wisdom says Ovechkin, and would agree with it based upon all the press he receives.  But reading the players recap, I think that Malkin will take it this year.

Remember that 2009 NHL Awards will be broadcast live from the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Hotel Las Vegas on June 18 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada. Tickets to the 2009 NHL Awards are on sale at ticketmaster.com/nhlawards and at the Pearl Concert Theater Box Office.
