2013 Lady Byng Trophy Finalists

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy

NHL announced the finalists for the 2013 Lady Byng Trophy. The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy awarded annually to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability. The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association at the end of the regular season.  This year’s finalists are Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks, Matt Moulson of the New York Islanders and Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The winner will be announced during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final.

I would not be surprised to see Martin St Louis win it, but I would like to see Patrick Kane win this year.

2011 Lady Byng Trophy Nominees

30 April 2011 1 comment

Last week, the NHL announced the nominees for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (sportsmanship) are Tampa Bay’s Martin St. Louis, Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom, and Dallas winger Loui Eriksson.  NHL story is here.

An interesting group of finalists for this year’s award, last year’s winner, a former Norris Trophy winner, and a newcomer, respectively.  It would be nice to see a defenseman to win this award, but St Louis has again been the best in staying out of the sin bin.  Martin St Louis will win his second Lady Byng.

The 2011 NHL Awards will be held at the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas on June 22. The ceremony will be broadcast by VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada.

2010 Lady Byng Trophy Nominees

Martin St. Louis of Tampa Bay and Pavel Datsyuk of Detroit are two of this year’s nominees for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s most gentlemanly player. The other player announced was Brad Richards of the Dallas Stars.

Another repeat challenge by St Louis and Datsyuk.  But, Datsyuk has owned this trophy for the past four seasons.  Look likes it will be five.

Voting was conducted by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association at the end of the regular season.  The winner is to be announced at the 2010 NHL Awards on June 23 in Las Vegas.

NHL 2009 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy Nominees

NHL.com has announced the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy nominees for gentlemen play.  There are:

Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit Red Wings
Zach Parise, New Jersey Devils
Martin St. Louis, Tampa Bay Lightning

Another fine list of finalists for this year’s award.  It is a given that Pavel Datsyuk will be the favorite to win this trophy again for the fourth time, but he has some good competition this year.  Martin St Louis has been a consistent forward for the Tampa Bay Lightning.  However, I think that Zach Parise will be the one who challenge Datsyuk for this trophy.  He has been the impact player this year in getting the Devils throughout the year without Martin Brodeur in goal.  That is why I like Parise to edge out Datsyuk this year.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

WED, APRIL 22: Calder Trophy (top rookie)
THU, APRIL 23: Norris Trophy (top defenseman)
FRI, APRIL 24: Lady Byng Trophy (sportsmanship)
MON, APRIL 27: Vezina Trophy (top goaltender)
