2011 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy Nominees

2 May 2011 1 comment

Last week, the NHL announced the nominees for the Bill Masterton Trophy (perseverance and dedication to hockey).  They are Anaheim Ducks goalie Ray Emery, Calgary Flames forward Daymond Langkow and Philadelphia Flyers forward Ian Laperriere.  NHL story is here.

Coming back from being hit in the puck like Langkow and Laperriere did or Emery being diagnosis with avascular necrosis and coming back from successful hip surgery,  these men are worthy of being honor for this award.  Or you could agree with Puck Daddy at Yahoo! Sports, who weighs in with another candidate here.

This award is always hard to choose a winner as each is deserving.  I would pick Ian Laperriere.

The 2011 NHL Awards will be held at the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas on June 22. The ceremony will be broadcast by VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada.

Philadephia Flyers 2010 Eastern Conference Champions

Philadelphia Flyers won the Eastern Conference Final last night 4-2 defeating Montreal Canadiens in the series 4-1.  Flyers had everything going for them in this series.  But, the Finals will be a different story.  Although I was rooting for an Original Six showdown, I am glad that Flyers won.  This means the Stanley Cup Finals will start this week.

2010 Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals

Eastern Conference Finals for the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs are set.  And it starts on Sunday with Chicago and San Jose at 3 PM and Montreal and Philadelphia at 7 PM.

A big surprise this year was the top 2 Western Conference seeds are in the Conference Final while that bottom 2 Eastern Conference seed advancing to the next round.  The Conference Final will be a great watch this year.
